Freshman 15- Love it or Hate it

The “Freshman 15” is a college tradition that has been around for a number of years.  Freshmen leaving home for the first time no longer have parents telling them when to come home, when to go to sleep, and what to eat.  Compounded with a full schedule of classes and the stress they entail, along with the proximity of easily acquired junk food, a college freshman is truly waging a war against his or her environment to stay trim.  Instead of fighting this pointless battle, why not just give up and fit in?  After all, this is supposed to be the time of your life!  Here are some ways to make sure you stay on top of this popular college trend.

Party 

Partying is important for two reasons.  First, and foremost, is the alcohol.  Alcohol packs a whopping seven calories per gram.  Not only that, but it helps stop any silly thoughts about diet that may cross your mind.  After all, according to MSN health, more than four drinks a day put you at a 46% chance for obesity.  Drink up folks!  Partying will also cause you to awake longer than you might otherwise.  If you stay up later, you need to eat more to fuel your body.  Also, the less sleep you get, the more prone you are to gain weight, which brings us to the next point.

Inconsistent Sleep Schedules
Believe it or not, the amount that you sleep (or don’t sleep!), has a lot to do with how much weight you gain.  The best thing to do then is get as little sleep as possible, or as sporadic as possible.  According to MSN health, a person that sleeps seven or more hours per night is the least likely to put on weight.  A person that sleeps only six hours is 12% more likely to put on weight, and a person who only gets five hours of sleep is 32% more likely to pack on the pounds.  The less sleep you get, the more time you have for more important things, like beating your favorite song on Guitar Hero.
