Halloween Haunt at Dorney Park

If you reside in the Lehigh Valley area, a good Halloween attraction to check out is Halloween Haunt at DorneyPark, formerly known as HalloWeekends.  The attractions are open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night from September 27 until November 1.  Until five pm, they remain kid-friendly, with “Boo-Blast” attractions and characters throughout the park.  After five, however, the freaks and zombies make their appearance, catering to an older crowd. It’s that time of year again, and people of all ages are looking for ways to have some Halloween fun.  Although some people view Halloween as primarily a holiday for children, the truth is that people of all ages partake in the celebrations.  Costumes get scarier (and more provocative!) with age, but many people never outgrow the thrill of a good scare.

The absolute best thing about Halloween Haunt, besides all the wandering spooky characters, is the deal that you get for your money.  For $20.50, you can buy a starlight admission, which is good from six pm until close (midnight on Fridays and Saturdays).  This starlight admission ticket not only buys you six hours in the park, but exposes you to nearly nonexistent lines.  So while everyone is waiting in ridiculously long lines for the indoor mazes, you can hit each roller coaster as many times as you want, and even enjoy a front seat without waiting!

Dorney Park has added nine new attractions to the park for the fall season.  There are now four indoor mazes, three outdoor mazes, and two shows.  The indoor mazes all tend to be very crowded, since the outdoor mazes are likely to be colder.  While not bad, the indoor mazes are fairly run of the mill, and are all similar to each other.  The outdoor mazes, however, are more unique and I found them to be pretty spooky.  I recommend a visit to Headstone Hollow, along the path by Steel Force.  The whole path is enshrouded in fog.  It is an entertaining alternative to the darkness of indoor mazes.  While I was only able to make it to one of the shows, I would recommend that you spend your time on other things.  Who wants to sit on a freezing cold bench for 45 minutes anyway?

While the Halloween attractions at Halloween Haunt may not be the most original or spooky things to do in the area around Halloween, it is certainly a worth a visit  if you like rides.  Just be sure to bundle up.  A cold night turns a lot colder zipping along at 60 mph in a roller coaster!
